UPCOMING EVENTS OF THE COMMITTEE:
- The Democratic Town Committee has scheduled a CAUCUS for Saturday,
February 13, 2010 at the downstairs meeting room of the Walpole Public
Library, 65 Common Street Walpole MA beginning at 10:30 AM. PLEASE
NOTE THAT IN ORDER TO RUN TO BE A DELEGATE OR TO VOTE AT THE CAUCUS, YOU MUST
HAVE APPEARED AND REGISTERED BY 10:45 AM AT THE LATEST. REGISTRATION BEGINS
AT 10:15 SO PLEASE TRY TO ARRIVE AND REGISTER EARLY. At this caucus,
we will elect 11 delegates and 3 alternates to the state Democratic convention
which will take place in Worcester on June 4th and 5th. (The main day of the
convention will be Saturday the 5th). We will elect 5 male delegates, 5 female
delegates, and one more who can be of either sex. At the convention, we will
be electing the Democratic party’s nominees for several state offices,
including Governor, Treasurer, Auditor and Attorney General.
- In order to run to be a delegate or to vote at the caucus, you must attend
the caucus in person, and you must have been registered to vote as a Democrat
in Walpole by December 31, 2009. (The one exception to the “must attend
the caucus” rule is a member of the armed services who advises me, the
DTC chair, of his/her desire to be a candidate before January 18, 2010). You
do not need to be a member of the Democratic Town committee to either run
or vote at the caucus. Each person seeking to be elected as a delegate will
have the opportunity to make a two minute speech if he or she wishes.
One more eligibility criterion: a person who publicly supported or endorsed
any candidate whose announced intention was/is to oppose the nominee of the
Democratic Party, in the current or any one of the last two most recent biennial
elections, is ineligible to be elected as a delegate.
- Our next Democratic Town Committee Meeting will take place on Weds
Feb 10, 2010 at 7:00 PM at our usual alcove room at Finnegan’s Wake.
If you are a Walpole registered Democrat, we will be happy to have you attend.
Remember that you do not have to formally be a member of the Committee to
attend. At this meeting, we will begin planning our activities, events and
outreach for the coming year. We will also discuss the Walpole Democratic
caucus, which is scheduled for Saturday, February 13 at the downstairs meeting
room of the Walpole library. We will elect a new Vice Chair to replace Jeff
Mattson who had to resign due to increased personal responsibility. PAUL ENGLISH
has agreed to run and serve if elected. We will also discuss planning for
the election campaign that is beginning for the various state offices, such
as Governor, Treasurer, and Auditor. Let’s have a big turnout for this
important meeting at which we will make plans for the important coming year!
